Great Lakes Gives
Every Great Lakes employee enjoys unique opportunities to join in and change lives.
All employees, whatever their role, play a vital part in advancing our bold charitable mission: to help more people of all backgrounds access and complete higher education and see its benefits in their lives. Employee efforts have made Great Lakes successful, and this success has enabled us to invest nearly $260 million in our communities, through services, research, and grants in support of our mission.

Our employees also have a variety of opportunities to get involved and support education causes locally through our Great Lakes Gives program. Our 2016-2017 Year in Review explores the many reasons employees contribute to our annual events, including:
- Supporting our adopted schools by collecting school supplies, healthy snacks, books, winter clothing, Box Tops for Education, and more to help meet the basic needs of students and staff. Each of our offices has adopted a nearby school that welcomes the extra assistance our employees provide.
- Uniting for our annual company-wide United Way campaign, by pledging and participating in a variety of fun events in support of education initiatives and other causes in each of our communities. Employee giving has been multiplied in recent years by a Great Lakes corporate match supporting education.
- Getting involved educationally with our adopted schools. Our Doing What's Write Pen Pal program connects employees with pen pals at our adopted schools. By writing back and forth throughout the school year, students get to not only practice spelling, grammar and penmanship, but also interact with an adult outside of their family. It has proven to be a rewarding experience for both students and employees.
